North American Tour: Day 1 – Atlanta to Baltimore

I have to say, all in all it was a fine day.

It started off on the wrong foot though.  I had intended to get a good nights sleep in and was in bed by 9:00.  Normally I am up until 2 or 3 in the morning, and unfortunately that fact got in the way of my grand master plan.  I intended to be asleep by 10:00 at the latest – I ended up falling asleep around 4:00 am, and tossed and turned until I woke up at 5:10!

We rolled out at 5:55 am, and from the get-go it was a good trip.  I know I am not necessarily objective here, but my kids were in fact, awesome.  No really, they were outstanding and very well behaved.  They didn’t even bust each other’s chops!  We’ll see how that turns out after a few more days though.  Punks.

The kids loaded up with Barbie, Polly Pockets, Bakugan (sp?), and transformer toys, as well as a Netflix worthy collection of movies, and they were thoroughly entertained the whole way.

We had a nice stop at the Crack-house for Kids (McDonalds) in the afternoon.  We walked in at the same time as another dad and his boy.  My kids and I went to the counter and ordered while this guy and his kid went to the restroom first.  Turns out we were the only ones there at the counter.  That changed in a blink, as seconds after the guy entered the restroom a bus load (a freaking bus load!) of teenagers (a church youth group or something) came into the resturant like ants, and I mean they flat out loaded up that McDonalds.  That poor guy and his kid came out of the bathroom and immediately wore a beat-down expression on his face.  I felt bad for the guy.  They didn’t even bother to get in line (it was out the door).  For a moment I thought about letting him have my spot in line…. but that passed.

Having two kids by myself is a challenge on a trip like this, right?  Well, Caelan decided that she wanted to up the ante for me, and had diarrhea – three episodes – fortunately all in the potty not anywhere else.  But man, what’s up with that?!?  She also decided to hurl for me later in the day right in her car seat – and right during the industrial section of Richmond, VA, when there was really nowhere to stop.  Poor girl.  On her birthday too!

Well, that’s enough about today.  It was fun – I love adventure, driving, and hanging with my pimp and princess, so it was cool.  The kids miss their mommy, and I miss my wife.  Fun times though.

Tomorrow:  Philadelphia, New York (Manhattan & Central Park), and the to Boston (God willing).

Total miles today:  713.

Waypoints:  The Carolinas, Virginia, Annapolis, Washington D.C., Baltimore.
