Good times today friends.
As I mentioned before we arrived yesterday evening to a warm welcome and a great dinner by Brad & Anita, home brewed beer from Dan, and play time for the kids with their cousins Katie & Caroline.
This morning we had a leisurely pancake breakfast, then we were off to the zoo in Syracuse, NY. It was free (thanks guys) and while we had to dodge some rain on and off, it was a great time and the kids loved it. Watched the elephant take a animated and extended dump during a live demonstration, much to the chagrin of the handlers. Had fun staring at the lions – they are creepy and have eyes that stare into your soul.
We drove back to Cortland and stopped for some decent ice cream (they specifically call it ‘hard ice cream’ up here). I ordered what I thought was a medium sized cone but to my surprise got the biggest cone in the world’s history. When we got to the house I enjoyed my favorite portion of the day – engaging in a chipping contest with Jason (Megan’s husband). We played 18 or so ‘holes’ in and around Brad & Anita’s garden (shhh!), over the pond, through the woods, off the backboard, nuthin’ but net. Unfortunately I didn’t fare very well (I think Jason cheated ha ha).
We ended the evening with another fine, fine meal of London broil roast with spiced potatos, corn, baked beans, and a kickin’ spicy homemade gravy. Now we are up in our bedroom chilling, and I’m watching a pretty cool show on VH1 called ‘The Great Debate’ (not the movie).
Tomorrow it’s off to Cleveland to pick up my brother Courtland (no relation to the city), and then to Cincinnati. Take care – i’ll catch up with you soon. Check out the pics.
