Not much going on today really. Got up really early and hit the road. Was able to have a nice drive through upstate New York from Cortland until I picked up the interstate in the west of the state and took it into Pennsylvania.
The most beautiful portion of the trip (and one of the best parts overall) was the travel through the Allegheny mountains in northern Pennsylvania. I only was able to travel through the upper portion of the mountains, but it was enough to see how beautiful it is. I followed a biker for a long time – he liked to drive fast, and I was down with that.
I made it to Cleveland around 1:30 pm and picked up my brother Courtland who had flew in from Dallas. We had good times as we made our way through Ohio, which by the way is an extremely boring drive. Sorry to my Buckeye friends… but come on, compared to where I have already visited, this viewing experience was especially pathetic.
To make matters worse, the air temperature immediately seemed to rise 15 degrees as soon as I hit Cleveland. Goodbye to awesome weather – hello to misery. I’ll be in Dallas by Friday, and it’s been in the 100’s already. Great. One good note – Cincinnati is perhaps one of the coolest cities that I have seen – i’ve been through there twice now and downtown (on the river) is absolutely fantastic. Sorry – no good pictures though – it was too hard to get them during rush hour traffic, and my copilot was a pretty lousy shot.
We decided to push through to Lexington, KY. We had originally scheduled to stop in Cincinnati but we found a better deal in Lexington, and besides it’s countryside that I wanted to get a better look at and we’ll have a shorter trip for tomorrow (and more time for flexibility).
Sorry for not having many pictures today. I should be able to get better shots tomorrow, as we have some pretty scenic stuff to see.
Total miles: Forgot to check again, but I think it’s around 1,820 now.
Tomorrow: Lexington to Nashville to Memphis.
